Our Company, which was created under the name of Budget Tours and foundered in 1974. was bought by the Moollan family towards the end of the 80’s. Lady Moollan who was then on her way for an early retirement, started to get the business on the move, targeting mainly the South African market. A few years later, around 1993, her main focus became the emerging Indian market, a real tough challenge, but she succeeded to build up the Company’s image, known for its reliable & dedicated approach.

The Company counted at that time, three employees. Budget Tours created its own ’family style’ management and organisation in all fields. “Not being in the system made it easier for us to think out of the box and innovate.” Gradually, the team was reinforced with competent people. In the late 90’s, Budget Tours started to move faster towards new territories to conquer, like
Europe, Australia, Latin America and Russia in particular, where we have been the pioneer in driving business towards Mauritius. The team grew very quickly and reached about 50 employees and not handling only individual passengers, but also MICE business, especially from France.

In 2004, Budget Tours had reached its cruising speed with a solid reputation of dedicated DMC for niche markets. Brigitte Maurel, coming from Sun International, became then the General Manager of the Company and we changed our identity to become Solis Indian Ocean. At the same time, the Company was taken over by the British American Investment Group, the largest Holding Company in Mauritius, having firm intentions to be involved in the tourism sector. In 2007, David Collard who had been working for the Company since 1998, was appointed General Manager and is now the President & CEO.
 
In 2009, Budget Tours was revived and Tamarine, another DMC, was created, bringing us with Solis Indian Ocean, to a total of three DMCs. Solis Indian Ocean remains dedicated for niche markets and ‘A la carte’ services, while Tamarine is geared towards a more classical & traditional approach and Budget Tours back to its glorious days, working exclusively with the Indian market. We have also been the first and are still the only DMC locally, to successfully diversify our operations by hosting two Call Centres: one B2C and one B2B.
 
Today in 2010, we have had a fourth company, ‘First car Rental’, joining us under our umbrella, thus bringing the total of employees to 130.
